The useful starting point
EV Calculated is operated by Lewis Houghton. The calculators are free to use without an account. Start with your vehicle, use your own rates and keep estimates you can revisit.
What you can do with EV Calculated
- Plan a charge: estimate energy, cost, duration and range from a target percentage or charging-time window.
- Compare options: use independent charging scenarios or compare EV driving energy costs with petrol and diesel.
- Use your own vehicle: choose a specification in the vehicle picker, review the inputs and edit assumptions to suit your experience.
- Keep an estimate: save the scenario and its assumptions for later comparison.
The website provides the calculators and saved estimates. The Android app also provides charger discovery and Alerts, which require online services. iOS is being prepared; this page is not an announcement of App Store availability.
A planning tool with visible assumptions
The useful question is not simply “what does an EV cost to charge?” It is what a particular charge costs for your battery, rate, charging setup and target. The calculator lets you change those inputs rather than relying on a single national average.
Results are estimates. Vehicle charging limits, editable efficiency, charging losses and rates all affect them. A published range or peak charging speed is not a guarantee of performance in your conditions. The calculation method sets out the formulas, unit conversions and exclusions so you can reproduce a result.
Calculator preferences, vehicles and saved estimates stay on your device. Charger discovery and Alerts use separate services. See the privacy notice for the full account of data processing; the local-storage statement does not describe every app feature.
How the guides are put together
The guides are published by EV Calculated to help you choose inputs and interpret results. They combine worked examples checked against the calculator with links to original research or established charging guidance where external factual claims are made.
Examples are labelled as illustrative. Measured research is described with its test conditions and limits rather than turned into a universal default. The date on each guide is its content update date, not a claim that every linked source or vehicle specification was newly published then.
These pages were drafted with AI assistance and checked against the calculation code and cited sources. They do not claim independent expert review, laboratory testing by EV Calculated or first-hand vehicle tests. Research results attributed to another organisation remain that organisation’s work.
Help us correct something
For a question, incorrect specification or calculation you cannot reproduce, email help@evcalculated.com. Describe the page or calculator view and what needs correcting.
For a calculation, include the vehicle variant, input values and expected result. For a factual correction, a link to the manufacturer or original source helps identify the issue. Please leave out account credentials and personal location details. For help using the product, start with the help guide.
