The same energy added to your battery, using each charger's losses. Example rates, not live prices.

The useful starting point

Choose original e-Niro or later Niro EV at the specification step. Some original 64 kWh cars have a different onboard AC charger; trim and equipment matter, not just the battery badge.

What does a 20–80% charge cost?

The examples below cover specific Kia Niro EV & e-Niro configurations. They are calculated with the same engine as the tool above. Choose your version for its own figures; these examples never replace your saved car or tariff.

Illustrative home charging: 7.4 kW single-phase supply, 30p/kWh, 10% charging losses, no fees
Example specificationUsable batteryEnergy supplied20–80% costHome time
Kia Niro EV 2Original e-Niro · 39 kWh · 7.2 kW AC chargerUsable capacity from a qualified reference source · Evidence39.2 kWh26.13 kWh£7.843h 38m
Kia Niro EV 2Original e-Niro · 64 kWh · 7.2 kW AC chargerUsable capacity from a qualified reference source · Evidence64 kWh42.67 kWh£12.805h 56m
Kia Niro EV 264.8 kWh · second generationUsable capacity from a qualified reference source · Evidence64.8 kWh43.20 kWh£12.965h 50m

At a different electricity rate, the energy cost changes in direct proportion. Charging time is limited by the supply and the car’s fitted AC equipment. A three-phase rating does not guarantee the same power at a single-phase home wallbox.

One example, three charging situations

Using Kia Niro EV 2 (Original e-Niro · 39 kWh · 7.2 kW AC charger), 20–80% stores 23.52 kWh. These prices are illustrative inputs, not current tariffs or national averages.

Same battery gain; different prices, losses and charging speeds

Home, cheaper-rate example10p/kWh10%£2.613h 38m
Home, standard-rate example30p/kWh10%£7.843h 38m

DC time uses the product’s staged average-power model and any matching published reference. It is not a measured charging curve or a promise that a charger will deliver its advertised power. Temperature, battery condition, state of charge and charger sharing affect the result. Parking, idle and standing charges are excluded.

Plan the charge around your Kia Niro EV & e-Niro

Choose the right specification

Choose original e-Niro or later Niro EV at the specification step. Some original 64 kWh cars have a different onboard AC charger; trim and equipment matter, not just the battery badge.

Are the e-Niro 64 kWh and Niro EV 64.8 kWh interchangeable?

No. They are different generation references with different battery and charging inputs. The reviewed original 64 kWh e-Niro uses a 77 kW DC reference; the later 64.8 kWh Niro EV uses 94 kW. Neither figure represents constant power for the whole session.

Will it fit in your overnight window?

Select your version above, choose By charging time, enter the hours available and set the price from your tariff. The tool estimates the ending battery level and stops charging at full. If a cheap-rate window covers only part of a session, calculate the portions separately; the tool does not automatically split a session across tariff periods.

Why your charger’s bill can be higher than the battery gain

The example stores 23.52 kWh but needs 26.13 kWh from the home supply with 10% losses. Supplied energy = battery gain ÷ (1 − loss fraction). Use a suitable loss assumption for your car and charging conditions. Understand charging losses.

Kia Niro EV & e-Niro charging questions

Are the e-Niro 64 kWh and Niro EV 64.8 kWh interchangeable?

No. They are different generation references with different battery and charging inputs. The reviewed original 64 kWh e-Niro uses a 77 kW DC reference; the later 64.8 kWh Niro EV uses 94 kW. Neither figure represents constant power for the whole session.

Why might two e-Niros charge at different speeds on an AC post?

The reviewed original range includes 7.2 kW and 11 kW onboard AC specifications. Select the fitted equipment. An 11 kW-capable car still needs a suitable supply to reach that power, and a higher-rated post cannot upgrade a lower-rated onboard charger.

Can I use my actual electricity price and driving efficiency?

Yes. Select your specification, confirm its usable battery and charging limits, then enter your own price. Replace the catalogue planning efficiency with your observed miles or kilometres per battery kWh for a more personal range estimate. A manufacturer range reference is not a real-world range guarantee.

Does a 20–80% example mean that is the recommended charging limit?

No. It is a common comparison window, not battery-care advice. Follow the handbook and in-car guidance for your exact battery. Use any start and target levels in the calculator; high-state-of-charge DC charging typically takes longer.

Sources, specifications and scope

The original fully electric e-Niro and second-generation Niro EV are both covered in this family. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid Niro models are not included. Usable-capacity inputs are qualified technical references. The calculator uses the same reviewed catalogue as the main product. Example specifications are identified below; they do not cover every version. Unknown values remain unknown in the picker. Dates identify source checks or specification references, not registration cutoffs.

Estimated DC average power

Average powers are before losses and capped by the vehicle and charger limits. Automatic estimates use a matching published charging time where available, with approximate averages outside that interval. Otherwise they use 65% / 25% of peak power. Editing an average switches to your own settings.

A useful estimate

EV Calculated estimates costs, energy, time and added range for your EV. Search the catalogue or enter any vehicle manually.

We may not have the exact details for your car. Some versions have different batteries or charging speeds, and our information may be out of date. Check your car’s handbook and update any details that don’t match.

Your charging cost depends on the electricity price you enter and the energy used while charging. Charging can take longer in cold weather or when the battery is nearly full. The driving range you gain depends on your driving, the weather and your battery’s condition.

Range is estimated from your entered efficiency, a published-range estimate, or a general starting value. For a better estimate, enter the miles or kilometres per battery kWh shown by your car, rather than a figure that includes charging losses. Charging times remain approximate, even when based on a published charging interval. The estimate covers electricity only, at the price you enter. It assumes that price applies throughout the charge and excludes electricity consumed after reaching full charge. It does not include parking, connection fees, charges for staying plugged in, or your home electricity standing charge. Check the charger’s prices before you start.
